The Route

The Kyles 10 Miles route is a stunner, following a quiet coastal road around the Ardlamont peninsula on Argyll’s Secret Coast.

The diversity and beauty of the landscape the route passes through is astonishing, from rolling hills to woodland copses to wild coastline. Catch glimpses of secluded beaches and glorious views across to Arran, Bute and Kintyre as you walk or run along.

The route starts in front of The Royal Hotel in the village of Tighnabruaich. The first five miles of the race are hilly and challenging. The first mile takes you along the shore with views over the Kyles of Bute and up past the shinty pitch – home to Kyles Athletic – to Kames. From here you’re heading to the crossroads at Millhouse. Look left for wonderful views of Arran. At Millhouse you turn left onto a single track road that winds its way around the Ardlamont peninsula. The views should take your mind off the hills! You’ll be treated to a wonderful elevated view of Ostel Bay and stunning views of Arran before passing through Ardlamont Estate. The final five miles flatten out as you head north along the coastal road past Carry Farm with its distinctive red roof, past Blair’s Ferry and the Tank Slip towards the finish line at Kames where a BBQ awaits.

There are limited changing facilities at Kames Hall, where registration takes place. Male and female toilets are available at Kames Hall, Shinty Pitch, Royal An Lochan Hotel, Carry Farm and Kames Hotel. You’ll find water stations at Kilbride Farm at approximately 3.5 miles from the start. The second station will be at Carry Farm at approximately 7 miles from the start. For the event in 2023 we are planning to put in an extra water station between the existing ones.

There are 17 marshals along the course to point you in the right direction and give you a cheer. There are mile markers along the route. First Aid is provided by Helensburgh First Aid.
